PIAGET introduces ceramic elements into watch creation for the first time, adding another milestone to the PIAGET Polo Skeleton Watch. Under PIAGET’s clever interpretation, the ceramic material exudes a unique and elegant charm, highlighting PIAGET’s unswerving pursuit of exquisite watchmaking skills and innovative ingenuity.
The new PIAGET Polo Skeleton Watch was developed over three years and integrates ceramic materials with a skeleton design. The watch continues the iconic ultra-thin case structure of the PIAGET Polo series, which fits like a second layer of skin. It is presented in a deep black with significant visual impact, injecting a bold and uninhibited modern personality into the classic timepiece series of PIAGET, as if inviting people to explore the extraordinary behind the ordinary appearance. Modern style
The PIAGET Polo series provides an ideal platform for exploring the application of ceramic materials. In 1979, the Piaget Polo watch became synonymous with sporty elegance, becoming a hit among its target customer group and the Piaget Society celebrities who led the glamour trend in the 1980s. This watch is made of gold and features classic round die engraving, which is suitable for both men and women. The Piaget Polo series has been constantly innovating and interpreting diverse creativity for decades. In 2016, the Piaget Polo S series was launched, introducing stainless steel and equipped with a new in-house movement, integrating multiple complex functions and innovative designs, including a date display, perpetual calendar function, and interchangeable rubber straps, showing the vigorous vitality of keeping pace with the times. While pioneering innovation, the Piaget Polo series has always continued its slim and neat appearance proportions and exquisite finishing details, adhering to the creative concept since the beginning: to create a refined watch suitable for daily wear and exuding extraordinary charm in its implicit and restrained state.
With a keen eye for detail and exquisite materials, Piaget has reinterpreted the skeletonized design in ceramic, adding to the ultra-thin and proportioned case of the Piaget Polo collection. The art of skeletonization is a constant in the history of Piaget’s watchmaking. Piaget introduced a skeletonized watch in 1948 and continued producing it in small batches in the 1970s and 1980s. The Piaget Polo collection features a watch made for Miles Davis in 1984, which the legendary trumpeter wore on his wrist whenever he took the stage at the Montreux Jazz Festival. The watch features a diamond-set double bezel that elegantly surrounds the delicate skeletonized dial. The case features striking lugs that echo the polished round moldings that are the hallmark of the Piaget Polo collection. In addition, Piaget also launched a gem-set skeleton watch. In the early 2000s, Piaget cleverly combined the finely carved skeleton dial with creative watchmaking techniques, such as the skeletonization of the 600P tourbillon movement, which draws on the breakthrough achievements of the 9P and 12P movements in ultra-thinness. In 2021, the Piaget Polo series skeleton watch was launched with a new look, equipped with the brand’s 1200S1 ultra-thin movement, and the bridge plate is ingeniously coated with eye-catching blue or gray tones, which further highlights the light and agile beauty of this watch. These masterpieces all embody the profound attainments of skeletonization, vividly interpreting the originality and charm of the Piaget Polo series. In 2024, Piaget boldly innovated again and presented an avant-garde masterpiece for the Only Watch charity auction. The overlapping and interlaced hollow bridges in the movement present a striking interweaving of green, blue, and rose gold tones, setting a charming tone for the advent of the new Piaget Polo series hollow ceramic watch.
The exquisite encounter between ceramic material and ultra-thin design
The most difficult challenge in developing the new work was harmoniously integrating ceramic material into Piaget’s ultra-thin design and aesthetic style. To create such a thin, strong, and waterproof ceramic component and to give it exquisite finishing is a feat of precision engineering and design, and it is also a first in the watchmaking industry. To do this, the manufacturer had to rethink the existing structure of the watch and create a completely new case design.
The new case structure uses a specially made titanium frame to fix the ceramic case and other components. The titanium frame is treated with a black diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating, which harmonizes with the dark appearance of the ceramic parts, including the two-piece case, crown, and bezel. The new watch presents a striking, deep, tone-on-tone design with subtle gray details, lighting up daily life’s elegant and uninhibited charm. The watch is only 7.5 mm thick, 1 mm higher than the existing PIAGET Polo series hollow stainless steel and gold models. Such a slim design is scarce for a hollow watch with an automatic movement.
The new watch has the brand’s own 1200S1 ultra-thin automatic winding movement. The deep black tone of the watch is in sharp contrast with the eye-catching details coated with Superluminova fluorescent paint. In addition to the hour markers and hands, the PIAGET logo embedded in the rotor is treated with Superluminova fluorescent coating for the first time, adding an intelligent embellishment to the overall design. The watch has an interchangeable SingleTouch strap system, further highlighting its diverse characteristics. This strap system was first introduced 2023 in the Piaget Polo series perpetual calendar ultra-thin watch. Thanks to this interchangeable design, the new watch is equipped with a black rubber strap paired with a stainless steel or titanium folding clasp and comes with a blue rubber strap, showing a variety of charms.
The new Piaget Polo series hollow ceramic watch interprets unique ideas with bold designs, opening up a new horizon for the brand. Adhering to the subversive design concept of the Piaget Polo series, the latest work presents an elegant and coordinated appearance proportion. It combines daily practicality with exquisite luxury, vividly interpreting Piaget’s superb watchmaking skills and pioneering spirit.
